My kid has just started learning to play the piano. Informally though. I teach him myself and let him set the pace. No pressure. He is going really fast our of sheer love for music. Each time I come home with new music books, he'll grab them and try to play them. I bought those that come with CDs or cassettes, so he can hear how they are meant to be played.
Most don't have such listening aids, so I'll play them for him, and spice them up a bit to impress him and get his interest.
These music books would be wonderful gifts for that young musical genius. They are a great way to get a kid interested in learning to play musical instruments.
