By this time, hot wheels cars and toys would appeal to him. He would envy the older kids who own these toys. He would love a hot wheels gift that he can handle. My 3 year old could assemble hot wheels sets meant for ages 8 and above. A 4 year old could handle the simpler Batman hotwheels sets with the help of mom or dad.
Alternatively, you could get him anything to do with Sesame Street's Elmo, who happens to be a four year old monster, and my son's favourite when he was four.
